In Constantia Park, residents are awaiting the return of the Tshwane metro’s clean-up crew to fill up a trench that was dug to repair power cables in November.
Cables were damaged after a tree fell over due to torrential rains and winds, and residents have been left in the lurch, as no team has reported back to complete the repairs and cover the hole in over 60 days.
“It’s been two months since the metro worked on this power connection. When the incident occurred, the metro was just as slow in arriving to do repairs. Residents lost thousands of rands’ worth of food that had gone to waste due to the lack of response. Now it seems it is up to the residents to complete the metro’s job, as no team has returned to fill up this crater,” said the ward councillor, Nick Pascoe.
Pascoe furthermore asked motorists to proceed with caution. “This trench is on a corner and if a motorist is not careful, there could be an unfortunate accident, especially when it is rainy and the roads are slippery because of the debris washed onto the surface.”
The metro said that teams were being allocated to projects that were completed at the end of last year and that an assigned team would fill up the trench in due course.
