Minister’s son robbed in Sunnyside

The son of the state security minister, Siyabonga Cwele, was locked in his bathroom after an armed robber entered his home in Sunnyside on Tuesday night, the police said.

The police are on the hunt for an armed robber after the son of the state security minister, Siyabonga Cwele, was robbed and locked in his bathroom on Tuesday night, the police said.

At about 19:00, Luyanda Cwele returned to his Sunnyside home from a nearby shop when he was confronted by an armed man.

“The man accosted him and locked him in a bathroom until Wednesday morning. Cwele was then discovered by his gardener, who contacted the police,” said the police spokesperson, Brigadier Neville Malila.

The intruder fled the scene with electronic equipment, vehicle keys, a wallet and jewellery. Cwele, however, was left unharmed. “No arrests were made and the investigation continues,” Malila said.
