Heavy and continuous rain in Centurion over the past week caused many problems on the roads, including massive potholes.
Ward Councillor Peter Sutton warned the public of roads that have severely deteriorated due to the rain. Large potholes formed in the suburbs of Zwartkop and Hennopspark, as well as on the following roads: Lenchen Avenue North, Jacaranda Street, Hendrik Verwoerd Drive and the K109. These roads endure heavy traffic, especially in peak hours, resulting in the potholes worsening rather rapidly.
“These potholes are filled with water, which complicates visibility, especially when it is raining,” Sutton said. “Motorists are advised to take the utmost care when travelling on these streets as well as in Centurion in general to avoid an accident or damage to their vehicles.”
On Rooihuiskraal Road travelling towards Ruimte Road, a metro police officer saw four motorists standing next to the road due to the damage caused to their vehicles by a pothole on the left-hand side of the road. Damage done to vehicles by potholes can be reported to the Department of Public Works and the occurrence of potholes can be reported to 012-358-0614 or at pothole@tshwane.gov.za.
A Tshwane metro worker was, however, seen repairing a pothole on the corner of Hendrik Verwoerd Drive and Galway Avenue on Tuesday afternoon after the rain stopped.
