Domestic held at gunpoint

A woman was held at gunpoint as two men robbed the house where she is working.

A 39-year-old domestic worker was held at gunpoint on Thursday morning in Lyttelton.

According to the Lieutenant-Colonel Alida Esterhuizen, the woman was busy hanging up laundry at the back of the house when she saw a man in the yard. He told her he had to deliver goods, but reacted aggressively when she asked him how he entered the house.

Apparently he jumped over the gate.

Another man, who was armed, also appeared and took her into the house where she was ordered to sit behind the dining table. Both men then carried out two flat screen television sets, a game console, two cameras and a video camera. They also drank alcohol that was in the house.

Esterhuizen said the domestic worker noticed the men spoke Sotho and wore jeans and tekkies. One was short and the other one was tall.

The incident happened 09:00. The worker and the owner of the house went to the police station at 10:40 to open a case.

A neighbour who lives across the street said he saw the woman speaking to two men the previous day. One of them looked suspiciously at his house.
