Teenager and grandmother held at gunpoint

A teenager and his grandmother were held at gunpoint on Wednesday morning when two suspects robbed their home in Faerie Glen, police said.

A 19-year-old and his grandmother were held at gunpoint on Wednesday morning when two suspects entered their home in Bonita Villas in Faerie Glen, police said. Dagon Johnson was still sleeping in his room at 09:00 when he was woken by a noise. When he went to check the cause, he was met by two armed suspects in the corridor.

“I tried to chase them away, but one of them pulled out a knife and cut my arm. The other then pulled out a gun and pushed me into my grandmother’s room, where she was sleeping, and closed the door. They were heavily armed with a gun, knife, panga and crowbar,” said Johnson.

The suspects, who entered by breaking the gate and the main door, were wearing white doctor’s gloves during the robbery. “They fled with my grandmother’s laptop, my computer screen and two cell phones. After they left, I went outside and stood by the gate to try and stop them, but they had already left the complex,” said Johnson.

Police have issued a warning against criminals who enter homes during the day. “People should be warned about criminals’ new modus operandi of just walking in and robbing residents. Such incidents are terrifying. The suspects are still at large and we are investigating a case of armed robbery,” said police spokesperson, Captain Marissa Van der Merwe.
