Attempted hijacking caught on CCTV

CCTV footage shows how quickly a hijacking attempt can take place.

Local community policing forums, this week urged residents once again to be extra vigilant following various attempted hijackings.

One of the latest incidents was caught on CCTV and went viral on social media sites. It depicts how four men tried to hijack a Mercedes ML.  Shots were fired at the resident but luckily nobody was hurt during the incident and the hijackers fled the scene without taking anything.

Pretoria suburbs, especially in the east and Centurion, have also been plagued by a series of incidents in the past few weeks.

CPF-members are of opinion that if more information could be gained regarding criminals, they can get a step ahead of them. A local forum also gave the following tips to avoid becoming a victim:

Be on the lookout for suspicious activity in your neighbourhood. When entering your house, ensure that the gate is closed before parking in the garage or entering the house.

Hijackings usually occur between 17:00 and 20:00, but an increasing amount of incidents occur in broad daylight. Criminals have also become more sophisticated by dressing neatly and driving more expensive vehicles. They usually gather all necessary information of their target before committing the crime.

By working closely with the community, security companies and the CPF law enforcers can obtain crucial information about criminals and more effectively combat crime.
