The Sinoville police recently celebrated a victory after five suspects were arrested in connection with a house robbery in Montana Park.
The suspects, aged between 20 and 40, were arrested on Friday for house break-in, possession of stolen property and possession of house break-in equipment.
The Sinoville police spokesperson, Mirna von Benecke, said the suspects allegedly broke into a home on Ibis Street in Montana Park and were later arrested on Sefako Makgatho Drive close to the N1 highway.
Von Benecke said the break-in was discovered when the child of the family whose home was broken into wanted to watch television early in the morning, but realised the TV was missing.
“The boy alerted his father, who then phoned the police. The police reacted to the call and patrolled the streets looking for the suspects,” she said. Constables Riaan du Plessis and David Maidi noticed a suspicious white Golf making an illegal U-turn and proceeded to follow the vehicle.
After pulling the vehicle over and questioning the suspects, they noticed the stolen plasma television in the vehicle. They were arrested and all of the property was positively identified by the owner. Von Benecke added that after the arrests were made, the police found that one of the suspects was currently out on parole after an alleged hijacking in Sunnyside and another had three warrants against his name.
