Teamwork brings police success
Police, community and CPF teamwork always helps the police with the arrests they make to keep the community clean.
Team work between the police and Community Policing Forum (CPF) in Hercules, has led to the arrest of 28 suspects over the past weekend.
“We work hand in hand with the community. We have meetings on a monthly basis with the Hercules CPF and sector police managers,” Hercules police spokesperson, Captain Bonginkosi Msimango said.
He said the meetings are also held at the respective sectors to identify problematic areas and monitor crime shifting from one area to another.
Among the arrested suspects charges varied from rape, drunken driving, domestic violence, shoplifting, common assault, drinking in public, urinating in public, walking drunk in the street and pedestrian source of danger.
“A 24-year-old taxi driver was arrested for rape. It is alleged that the taxi driver raped a 20-year-old woman in the bushes in Hercules. The suspect then proceeded to his room where he continued raping the victim,” Msimango said.
He further said that in a separate incident, a 40-year-old man was arrested for a domestic-related incident. It is alleged that the man hit his wife. The incident took place on Saturday evening in Claremont.
“In the early hours of Saturday a man aged 43 was arrested for drunken driving at the corner of Market and Bremer streets. A 41-year-old man was arrested for shoplifting at a shopping complex after stealing packets of painkillers worth R215,94 on Sunday morning.”
Msimango mentioned that they appreciate the community’s input in helping to fight crime in the area. “We urge the community, commuters and the general public to join the fight against crime.”
