Two suspects are currently in police custody after a 19-year-old boy was robbed in his Wierdabrug home on Wednesday afternoon, police said.
Danie Northe (19) was home alone when he heard a knock on the door. “He went to check, and opened the door to three men who said they were looking for work,” said police spokesperson, Sergeant Ann Poortman.
The suspects suddenly pushed the door open and entered the house. They took Northe to his room and tied him up with his Playstation cables. “They stole valuables, including two laptops, two Playstations, clothes, shoes and a plasma TV. The total value of the stolen goods is R29 000,” said Poortman.
Northe’s neighbours called the police after they heard him screaming for help. Upon arrival, the police were directed by the neighbours to where the suspects had fled. “Two of our police officers chased the three suspects and managed to catch two of them while the other fled. They arrested a 28-year-old and a 26-year-old from Alexandra and Soweto respectively. Fortunately, no shots were fired and the suspects will appear in court soon on charges of robbery,” said Poortman.
