Polluted water causes concern
Polluted water a big concern and metro is not responding.
Water containing green particles that look like fungus and may pose a health threat is coming out of the taps at the home of a Pretoria Gardens resident. This is preventing her from using the water for drinking, cooking, bathing and washing.
For almost two weeks now, polluted water has been coming out of Elsie Bezuidenhout’s taps. “This is unacceptable and it has been going on for weeks now. I have called the municipality but have got no response from them yet.”
She said that this was very upsetting and worrying because, besides the health hazard, the polluted water might also damage the equipment at her property. “I am very upset and concerned that all this clogging of the polluted water might cause more damage to my appliances such as my washing machine and the tap filters and cartridges. We now have to clean the filters on a daily basis,” she said.
Bezuidenhout also said she did not have to change any taps at her house before the problem started.
“Over the past two weeks we haven’t had any water for two days.” She also said that after the water came back on again and after they opened the tap, the water was polluted.
Bezuidenhout told Rekord that she was buying water for drinking and bathing. They get water from their borehole for the laundry. ”The water, however, does not smell bad,” she said.
She said she could not understand why the water was polluted. “Also, we do not understand why the Tshwane metro is responding to the problem.”
The Tshwane metro was not available for comment at the time of going to print.
