Everyone will benefit from different routes in Spar Women’s Challenge

The Spar Women’s Challenge now boasts a separate starting point for the 5km and 10km races. The 10km will start in South Street and the 5km will start in West Street.

The organisers of the Spar Women’s Challenge Pretoria leg have announced that as of this year, the 5km and 10km routes will have separate starting points.

The logistics around planning for 25 000 runners to all set off at the firing of the starting gun are immense – not just for the race organisers but for the runners as well, especially if you are in the centre of the pack.

For several years, the organising team has been trying to find a way to split the start of the two distances to make sure that the social runners are able to move at their own pace. On the other hand the serious Grand Prix contenders must have the freedom to bolt out to the front line. Well, as of 2014 they have managed to do just that.

Both routes still begin at SuperSport Park in Centurion – the home of the Pretoria Spar Women’s Challenge, but the 10km will start in South Street and the 5km will start in West Street.

“After years of trying to make this happen, we have finally secured a separate start for the two races to better accommodate the thousands of participants,” said Jerome Jacobs, marketing director at Spar North Rand.

“It is important to us that all of our runners know how much effort we put into understanding their needs. From the novice runner to our major Grand Prix contenders, our goal is to ensure that every woman feels accommodated and that nothing gets in the way of them enjoying their race experience.”
