Fierce debate about ad campaign
''This TV ad was NOT thought through well.''
A Feed a Child advertisement depicting a child as a dog has sparked a fierce debate on social media.
The advertisement aims to convey the message that the average domestic dog eats better than millions of children and shows a young black boy being rewarded with a snack when completing a task.
Feed a Child is a non-profit organisation based in Centurion who’s mission, according to their website, is to provide “sustainable solutions to uplift human dignity caused by the devastation of poverty”.
This sparked mix emotions on the Feed a Child Facebook profile.
“This TV ad was NOT thought through well. The lasting impression is not at all of starving children, but of politics and racism. You really can do better without the badly hidden implications. Forgive me for being this blunt. I do hope the underlying message in this ad was not
intentional. I really have a heart for children; more so for suffering children, but I am appalled by people using them for their own (political?) agendas,” one user commented.
“I also contributed because we know the need, but the advert is quite shocking… We rewind to look at it again, to make sure we did not miss something; my husband thought it is cruel, but I certainly think it portrays the message! SAD!”, another user commented.
