Centurion power hopefully restored in two days
Power in various areas of Centurion might only be fully restored within two days.
If all goes as planned the power outages caused by the fire at the Kentron substation in Echo Park on Monday afternoon will be up and running within two days.
The areas affected by the power outage include the Centurion Central Business District, Swartkop, Highveld and Eco Park.
“A team of technicians have been dispatched to the scene to investigate the cause and to assess the extent of the damage. It is estimated that the repair time will take two days,” Lindela Mashigo, director communications at the Tshwane metro, said.
She said it is the second consecutive day that the city’s substations have become the focal point of criminal elements. On Sunday, the Brakfontein substation was severely vandalised, which led to power outages in areas such as Amberfield, Brakfontein, Heuweloord, Rooihuiskraal North, Thatchfield, The Reeds and parts of Wierdapark.
“Residents are urged to only use generators with an auto start and shut off function and not to connect generators without this function to the electrical network,” Mashigo warned.
Affected residents are urged to report power failures via SMS. SMS the word, POWER, followed by your account number to 082-612-0333. Or report a power failure to 012-358-9999 and selecting the electricity option.
