A group of men were robbed at gunpoint of an undisclosed amount of money at Route 21 Corporate Park, a high-security office park in Irene, the community police subforum said on Tuesday.
According to JC van Niekerk, the chairman of Lyttelton sector 4 community police subforum, the men believe they were being followed by the criminals to the entrance of the park after they withdrew a large amount of money from a bank in the area a few minutes before the robbery.
Van Niekerk said the robbery happened on Monday afternoon. He further said when the victims stopped at the visitor’s entrance they saw a man in a white shirt approaching the passenger side window, which was open. The man then robbed them at gun point.
The criminals then fled in a getaway vehicle, a silver Renault Scenic that was parked a few metres away, according to Van Niekerk. No one was injured in the robbery.
Van Niekerk cautioned members of the public to always be extra careful when withdrawing large amounts of money.
Route 21 Corporate Park management could not yet give comment while the police were also not available for comment.
