Children traumatised after witnessing house robbery

The children are being treated for shock at the hospital.

Two children are being treated for shock at the Pretoria East hospital after two armed men forcefully entered their home and robbed them, police said on Tuesday.

According to police spokesperson of Lyttelton police station, Warrant Officer Hero Gumbu, the two men gained entry to the property on Tuesday at around 11:00 by forcefully pulling the gate off it’s rail in Wingate Park.

Gumbu said the armed men then entered the house and found the two children and the domestic worker. They pointed a firearm at the frightened children and domestic worker and ordered them to cooperate.

“The robbers then started looting valuables including cell phones, plasma televisions and play stations,” Gumbu said.

He said the domestic worker only managed to inform the homeowner when the suspects left the house. No one was injured. A case of house robbery has been opened and investigations are underway.

The police cautioned homeowners to tighten security measures on their premises and to teach domestic workers about staying safe when the owners are away. Police could not confirm the ages of the two children.
