Another screwdriver attack

Suspects tried to break-in through the front door of a house using a screwdriver and also assaulted a man.

Police were on Wednesday still searching for two suspects who assaulted a 70-year-old man after attempting to break into his house at Olifants Avenue, Doringkloof.

According to police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Hero Gumbu, the two suspects tried to break-in through the front door using a screwdriver. When the victim saw them and decided to fight back, they hit him on the head with an unknown object before fleeing the scene.

According to the victim, the two suspects were driving a dark blue Toyota Tazz with registration number FKM992GP. They stopped at his gate at around 10:00 on Tuesday morning.

“At first, I thought it was the gardener and opened the gate, but then realised that they had ulterior motives. Then tried to break-in through the front door using a big screwdriver. At that time I was in the house with my wife. They eventually ran away after one of them injured me by hitting me on my head. I managed to drive to the hospital where they took care of my injuries,” he said.

Warrant Officer Gumbu confirmed that a case of attempted burglary has been opened and an investigation is underway.
