During a very successful police operation over the weekend 97 arrests were made and now residents can sleep a little safer knowing that these criminals are behind bars.
These 97 arrests were made in the Mamelodi cluster, which include Eersterust, Kameeldrift, Mamelodi East, Silverton and Sinoville.
“Police around the cluster embarked on a variety of crime combating operations such as vehicle control points, stop and searches and tracing of wanted suspects,” Warrant Officer Michael Mbewe, spokesperson for the cluster, said.
He said these actions resulted in the arrests for transgressions ranging from possession of drugs, house breaking, burglary, selling liquor without licence, reckless and negligent driving, drinking in public, shoplifting, malicious damage to property, gambling, theft, possession of ammunition and traffic act offences.
Mbewe said that most of the suspects will appear in Mamelodi court on Monday.
