SPCA warns against fraud
Animal lovers’ are duped by scammers pretending to sell toys on the behalf of the Tshwane SPCA. The animal organisation warned residents not to fall for the scam

The Tshwane Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) has warned animal lovers to be wary of people pretending to raise funds on behalf of the organisation.
Spokesperson Korky Levanon said a woman recently approached her on behalf of the Tshwane SPCA not knowing that Levanon worked at the animal organisation.
The woman claimed she was selling toys on behalf of the SPCA and that 10% of proceeds were being donated to the SPCA.
“After I asked her if she had a letter from the SPCA stating that she could collect money on the organisation’s behalf, she disappeared,” she said.
Levanon said the organisation had received numerous complaints from patrons reporting fraudsters who tried to sell toys on the SPCA’s behalf.
“The fraudulent act is duping the unsuspecting public into believing that they are supporting the SPCA.”
She advised animal lovers to stay vigilant and not to donate money to anyone without proper credentials.
