A total of 52 people were arrested in a crime prevention drive in Mamelodi on Tuesday and Wednesday, police said.

Spokesperson Constable Sam Shibambo said the operation began on Tuesday evening at 18:00 and ended in the early hours of Wednesday morning, with police focusing mainly on roadblocks and tracing criminals.

“Six people were arrested for drug-related offences, two for the possession of stolen vehicles and 21 others for road traffic offences,” he said.

Others were detained for crimes ranging from fraud to burglaries and theft.

“Some of the suspects will appear in the Mamelodi and others in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday,” Shibambo said.
