Police in the Mamelodi cluster have arrested 85 people over the weekend, police said.
The operation, which started on Friday and ended in the early hours of Sunday morning, concentrated mostly on illegal liquor outlets among other hotspots.
“The operation concentrated mostly on illegal liquor outlets, tracing wanted suspects, sporadic road blocks as well as stop and search operations in areas known as crime hotspots in the cluster,” said police spokesperson, Constable Sam Shibambo.
Ten people were arrested during the operation for drug-related offences.
“Five illegal liquor outlets were closed down. Many other suspects were arrested for crimes ranging from fraud, burglaries and theft. Most of the suspects will appear in either the Mamelodi Magistrates Court or the Pretoria Magistrates Court on Monday,” Shibambo said.
Earlier in the week, a total of 52 people were also arrested in the Mamelodi cluster after an intense crime prevention operation on Tuesday and Wednesday.
“Six people were arrested for drug related offences, two were arrested for possession of stolen vehicles and 21 others were arrested for road traffic offences,” said Shibambo.
Other suspects are detained for crimes ranging from fraud, burglaries and theft.
