Two people robbed of large amount of cash

Police caution the public to not carry large amount of cash.

A Centurion man was recently robbed of R15 000 in cash after withdrawing the money from the bank, police said on Monday.

Spokesperson Captain Agnes Huma this kind of crime was escalating in parts of Centurion. The latest one happened around 14:00 in the afternoon and the victim had clearly been followed until he stopped in Wierda Park.

Four men approached and searched him, took his car keys and fled with the money in his possession.

Huma said: “We would like to appeal to the community to limit the amount of money they withdraw at ATMs or at the banks and avoid carrying large amount of money, because there are people who are following them after they withdraw money then they rob them.”

People should transfer large amounts of money electronically to avoid such crimes, Huma said.

In another crime in Rooihuiskraal, a woman was hijacked and robbed of R1000 after parking in front of her garage. She was about to close the garage, when two men approached. They pointed a firearm at her, demanding her belongings in the vehicle. They took out her bank card and  drove with the woman to the nearest ATM, where they forced her to give them the pin number.

“The suspects later dropped the victim at Maraboe Avenue before driving away with her silver Ford Fiesta. The community should be aware of the car hijackings that are escalating around our area and they are happening between 18:00 and 20:00 in the evening when the people are coming from work.”

She appealed to the public to alert the police should they be suspicious of vehicles or people following them.
