SPCA robbed

Police are investigating a case of business robbery after the Waltloo SPCA was robbed this week.

Police are searching for an unknown man after the Waltloo SPCA and the adjacent building were robbed between Monday night and Tuesday morning, police said.

According to the Tshwane SPCA, the alleged robber gained access by cutting a lock. “He came in the middle of the night and had a really good cutter to cut the lock. He took a compressor. Luckily, none of the animals were injured,” said Tshwane SPCA spokesperson Korky Levanon.

She added that an incident of theft out of a motor vehicle occurred at the Waltloo branch on Tuesday. “A car was broken into in broad day light. There is an incident almost every night and they take metal parts from the kennels and the piping for the borehole has been ripped away. It seems they only break in for metal and copper items,” said Levanon.

According to police the building next to the SPCA facility was also burglarised: “A compressor and a lawn mower worth R2 400 were taken from the SPCA, and a steel rake, stove shovel, pick and laser worth R2 040 were taken from the adjacent building,” said police spokesperson Captain Johannes Maheso.

“We are an easy target because we are in an area where it’s quiet after hours. This is the last thing we need,” said Levanon.

No one has been arrested yet and anyone with information can contact Captain Tereblanche on 082-822-8219.
