Dad shot and killed
A father of six from Eersterust was shot and killed on Sunday.

Family members of an Eersterust father of six are still reeling from his murder on Sunday.
The 49-year-old Franklin Roodt was having a drink in a pub in Eersterust when someone walked in and shot him at point-blank range.
“We are all very sad about what happened. Franklin was having a drink with a lady friend and we believe that the shooting was sparked by jealousy,” said his brother Donovan.
He said Franklin was released on parole last year and was desperately trying to get his life back together. “My brother was in jail for the past 15 years for robbery. He studied in prison to become a pastor and was trying to get his life back together. It is such a tragedy,” he said.
Roodt said Franklin was the second brother he lost because of a shooting. His first brother was killed a few years ago in a drive-by shooting.
Captain Johannes Maheso, police spokesperson, said two men had been arrested in connection with the shooting. One was taken into custody for murder and the other for the possession of an unlicensed firearm. It was believed that the unlicensed firearm was used in the shooting.
