Moot robbery thwarted

Vigilance and teamwork prevented a business robbery on Friday afternoon.

A business robbery was thwarted in the Moot on Friday thanks to the quick response of the local police and the Flying Squad.

“A vigilant resident spotted three suspicious-looking men walking in 17th Avenue,” said Warrant Officer Dave Miller, police spokesperson.

The resident alerted Warrant Officer Anton Breedt from the Moot police of the three men and he gave chase.

Constable Steve Matle from the Flying Squad joined in the chase. They managed to apprehend one man but the other two other men escaped.

When the police searched the man, they found a 9mm weapon. Further investigation revealed the three men were contemplating a business robbery. They apparently received information that the employees of the business had received their salaries.

“Thanks to quick response and a vigilant resident, a business robbery had been prevented. We are very proud of both our officers,” Miller said.
