Man shot during a house robbery
A security guard that was patrolling the area managed to arrest one of the three alleged robbers.
A Centurion home owner was shot twice in an attempted house robbery this week and is being treated in the intensive care unit of Unitas.
Police said three people tried to break into a house in Hennopspark in the early hours of Monday morning.
Wierdabrug police spokesperson Captain Agnes Huma said the owner was apparently outside the house in Maroela Street when he saw the intruders and screamed for help. Shots were fired.
Bertus Myburgh from Copwatch Security said a security guard of the company was patrolling the area when a distress call from a woman was received. According to the woman her husband got into a fight with the robbers.
“Our reaction officer Alpheus Sekoba heard a gun shot, stopped at the house and saw a commotion. It was then established that the husband was shot. Sekoba arrested one of the alleged robbers while the other two fled through the Hennops River at the back of the premises,” Myburgh said.
Police confiscated two firearms on the scene. The home owner was rushed to a nearby hospital.
The owner’s wife, who asked not to be named, told Rekord her husband was still in a serious condition.
“He was shot in the stomach and lower leg,” she said.
Police are investigating a case of attempted murder.
