Man accused of bankcards fraud still in custody

A 46-year-old Nigerian national was arrested for bankcards fraud will appear on Friday for bail application.

The Nigerian national allegedly found in possession of sophisticated equipment to manufacture bank cards in Sunnyside has been formally charged with fraud and remained in custody, the Sunnyside police said on Thursday.

Ulumide Shoyeyeu, 46, will be back in the Specialised Commercial Crime Court in Pretoria tomorrow for a bail application.

Shoyeyeyu was arrested when police closed down a massive laboratory used to manufacture counterfeit bank cards on the corner of Walker and Troye streets.

Police seized a number of imported sophisticated machines use to create counterfeit bank cards. These included an embosser, an ATM card slot, a laptop, a card printer and over 400 white plastic cards.

Investigations by the Hawks are continuing.
