Three arrested after Moot shootout

Three armed men were arrested on Sunday night after a shootout in Ben Swart Street.

In what seemed to be a scene from an action movie, the Moot police and three armed men had a  shootout on Sunday night.

Lieutenant Linda Jerling said two police officers patrolled the Gezina area when they noticed a suspicious white Volkswagen Golf with its lights switched off.

“The police indicated  the vehicle to stop, instead  it sped off,” Jerling said.

During the high speed chase in Ben Swart Street, the armed men fired shots at the police. The police returned fire and called for backup.

The police managed  to apprehend the men in the Wonderboompoort area. No injuries were reported.

The men aged between 25 and 31 were charged with attempted murder, reckless and negligent driving, possession of   a suspected stolen vehicle and a temporary license was found inside the vehicle.

The men are set to appear in the magistrate’s court during the course of Tuesday.
