A 45-year-old man was shot and wounded in front of his house in Rooihuiskraal on Tuesday night when five armed men robbed him in an attempted hijacking.
Pierre Viviers, chairman of the Wierdabrug sector 2 CPF, said the man was opening his gates to pull into his yard in Pelican Street , when five men approached him.
The robbery occurred between 19:30 and 20:00.
“The robbers shot the man in the abdomen before robbing him of his cell phone and wallet,” he said.
The robbers fled the scene in a white BMW and a white Nissan Tiida.
A neighbour heard the cries for help and immediately reacted to assist the man. The CPF, MonitorNet and police were called to the scene.
“There were no suspicious vehicles when the victim opened the gates. Residents should be cautious and look out for any suspicious movements, whether on foot or in a vehicle,” Viviers warned.
Emer-G-Med treated the man on scene and transported him to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Captain Tsekiso Mofokeng, provincial police spokesperson, said the police are investigating a case of attempted murder and armed robbery.
No arrests had been made.
