A Van der Hoff Road business in the West of Pretoria was burgled twice by the same man in four days.
The intruder was caught on camera entering the premises last week Friday and again this week Tuesday. He didn’t manage to get away with all the looted items. Owner of the business, Annette Scheepers, said on both occasions the burglar broke a window and forced the burglar bars apart to get into the office.
She explained how the thief went about his business: “On Friday the robber ripped the alarm system off the wall, stole a vehicle radiator, two batteries, copper cables and loose change that was in one of the vehicles. On Tuesday night at about 21:45 the same man entered the premises again and took a vehicle radio, a modem and a bag full of things, but everything was recovered in the yard except the modem.”
He did not manage to get away with the stolen goods on Tuesday, because an employee arrived at the business when alerted about the office lights being on. Scheepers said when the burglar saw the vehicle lights he fled and left everything behind. The employee also started shooting at the intruder with a paintball gun.
“You know, for a thief the man was very relaxed. He even switched on the lights while busy stealing and ignored the alarm system,” Scheepers said.
She also said the robber initially left with some items, but returned after five minutes to get more stuff: “He kept searching for something under the table but I am not sure what. We have two dogs on the premises and on Friday they were beaten up so badly that on Tuesday when they saw the burglar they went into hiding. We did not report the crime to the police, my husband just decided that we should not.”
Scheepers said business owners should be careful and take measures to protect their businesses.
