Laudium police save the day

Laudium police praised for great assistance by resident living in the Pretoria West cluster, after Pretoria West police allegedly failed to help them.

Elandspoort residents are full of praise for Laudium police who assisted an assault victim on Sunday who lives outside their area.

Joey Botes explained Elandspoort residents should actually be served by Pretoria West police, but she was unable to get support from this police station: “I arrived at the Pretoria West police station with the assaulted woman and on arrival we were told to go the Pretoria West hospital before we can open a case.”

They went to the Pretoria West hospital and after waiting for hours they were told to open a case at the police station before they could be helped. “I was angry at that point with the lack of help, so we went to the Laudium clinic. There we were told to go to the police, open a case and get a form they have to fill in, which is the right procedure.”

Botes and the assault victim then went to the Laudium police and were assisted. “Immediately when we walked in, we were greeted by friendly police officers who were very eager to assist us. We opened a case and went back to the clinic. There the woman received medical treatment and was also given counselling,” Botes said. Within two hours of laying the charge a suspect was arrested.

“I am very disappointed with how the Pretoria West police handled the situation. They always sit at the charge office with long faces, they do not greet, give false information and everything seems like a burden for them. The Laudium police members take the vision and mission of the police to heart. They want to create a safe and secure environment for the community, prevent and combat crime and ensure that offenders are brought to justice,” Botes added.

Botes thanked the Laudium police and clinic on behalf of the assault victim for their quick response and assistance.

Pretoria West police have not responded to Record’s enquiries about the claims made by Botes.
