A would-be hijacker was shot and wounded in the city centre on Thursday night, a private security company said.
Operations director of Hi-Risk Security, Arthur Crewe, said the man was spotted by one of the company’s patrol vehicles around 20:30 in Proes Street.
“Our guards saw men running towards a woman in a Toyota Conquest after they got out of a taxi. One of them was carrying a gun. He fired at our vehicle upon realising that he had been spotted,” said Crewe.
“One of our guards returned fire as the man turned around, running back to the taxi. He was hit in the leg but was able to reach the taxi, which sped away.”
