Faulty underground cables leave residents without power for 10 days
Electricity has been restored to most consumers, but testing specialists are working to pinpoint final medium-voltage cable faults in East Lynne and Murrayfield.

The Tshwane metro has pleaded for patience as supply interruptions, which began on September 28, continue to disrupt households and businesses in parts of Murrayfield and East Lynne.
Substation fire triggers blackouts
Technical teams are working to locate underground cable faults following a September 29 fire at the 132/11kV Waltloo Substation, which caused a faulty transformer at the Njala Infeed Substation and triggered widespread outages.
Although power was restored to 90% of consumers by October 4, parts of Murrayfield and East Lynne remained without power.

Fault tracing underway
Tshwane metro spokesperson Lindela Mashigo apologised for the prolonged outage and said technical teams are prioritising fault tracing to restore power safely, though the city cannot yet confirm a restoration time.
In Murrayfield, teams worked late on October 6, restoring five medium-voltage units overnight, while around 20 units remain without power as specialists work to pinpoint remaining faults.
In the Koedoespoort supply area serving East Lynne, teams identified a cable abnormality and a new open-circuit fault at the Kompanie/Baviaanspoort mini substation, with testing teams prioritising the single remaining medium-voltage unit on October 7.
Mashigo explained that locating and testing underground cable faults takes time, adding that the city remains committed to sharing verified updates.
“We appreciate your patience during this difficult period and appeal to residents to give technical teams the space and access they need to complete their work safely,” said Mashigo.
