Three men will reappear in court next week after they were arrested for possession of false number plates in Eldoraigne.
“The suspects appeared in court on Friday and their case has been postponed for seven days for a further investigation as the suspects may be linked to other serious crimes,” said police spokesperson Constable Tumisang Moloto.
Police recovered several false number plates on Tuesday after a high speed chase between police and the accused men.
“Members of the K9 Unit in Pretoria arrested three suspects and recovered several false vehicle registration plates, vehicle breaking implements and hand gloves on Tuesday at about 11:00. The suspects’ vehicle, a VW Golf GTI with false registration plates, was impounded,” said Moloto.
Moloto said that the car with false number plates was spotted by police during their routine patrol. “As they tried to stop the vehicle, a high speed chase followed until the vehicle was spotted by a Wierdabrug sector vehicle. One of the suspects jumped out and fled. Three suspects were arrested,” he said.
Upon searching the car, police recovered false number plates, screw drivers, spanners, and Allen keys, which police believe to be used for car break-ins. “There were also several false vehicle registration numbers believed to be used after a vehicle has been stolen. Further investigations are continuing as it is suspected that the suspects are part of a gang that deals in stolen vehicles around Pretoria,” said Moloto.
