Man convicted twice for same offence

Previously convicted housebreaker sentenced to five years imprisonment after he committed the same crime in the Moot area.

A previously convicted housebreaker was rearrested and sentenced to five years imprisonment after the Villieria police once again caught him in the act.

He had been targeting various houses in the Moot area and was arrested in May for house break-in with the intention to steal and the possession of suspected stolen property.

He was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment of which 12 months were suspended for a period of four years on condition that he would not be convicted of house break-in during the period of suspension.

Captain Coba Brits, spokesperson for the Villieria police, said: “He was rearrested last week for house break-in and sentenced to five years imprisonment. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm. The sentences will run co-currently with the six month sentence he is serving,”

The arresting officer Constable Martin Phalatse said he was very satisfied with the sentence and hopes to keep the criminal elements at bay in the Moot area.
