Police are on the hunt for six armed men after they bombed and robbed an Engen filling station in Silver Lakes on Friday.
Johannes Japhta, police cluster spokesperson, said the robbers hit the filling station on the corner of Lynnwood Road and Solomon Mahlangu Drive around 03:45.
They were all wearing balaclavas.
“Some of them held a petrol attendant and cashier at gunpoint while others focused on the safe under the till,” Japhta said. “They attempted to open the safe with a blunt object before cracking it open with explosives.”
The robbers fled with an undisclosed amount of cash from the safe and till.
“There were no customers at the filling station and no one sustained injuries,” Japhta said.
The Boschkop police are investigating.
