Police have launched a manhunt for a group of heavily-armed men who robbed the iStore in Centurion Mall on Friday morning.
Provincial police spokesperson Lt- Col Khensani Magoai said the men fled in a white Corsa, a black Audi A4 and a Silver Mazda.
Initial indications were that eight men were involved in the robbery.
Magoai said they took iPhones, laptops and tablets worth over R1 million. “Mall security gave chase but the robbers opened fire on them. No one was injured during the shooting.”
An eyewitness, Democratic Alliance councillor Chrisna Spoelstra, said she had just walked out of DisChem Pharmacy when four men holding blankets with electronic goods walked passed her.
“At first I thought this was strange, but then shrugged it off. Then another two men walked past me with very big weapons. I got such a big fright,” Spoelstra said.
Spoelstra said after she found cover at the Telkom shop, she heard multiple gun shots before the robbers fled the scene.
Magoai said anyone with more information should contact the police immediately.
