FMX champ crowned in Pretoria
Josh Sheehan won the 2014 Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour at the Union Buildings in Pretoria on Saturday.
Dedication and a hunger for success paid off for the fearless Australian Josh Sheehan, who won the 2014 Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour finale at the Union Buildings on Saturday.
Sheehan’s road to victory became a bit easier on Friday when the overall tour leader of the World Tour Standings, Levi Sherwood of New Zealand, sustained an ankle injury in the qualifying phase, but the 28-year-old Australian still had to fight like a lion to accumulate enough points to keep him in top spot.
Prior to the qualifier, Sherwood was ahead of Sheehan with five points.
Sheehan who repeatedly performed double backflip tricks with perfection and control, impressed the judges and 22 000 fans who came to witness motor cross action of world standard at the event.
Adam Jones of America who took third place, made it clear that he would not even try to do the double backflip because of the danger it involves.
Sheehan said he utilised the power of his bike to do the double backflips.
He did not only excel with the double backflip, but he managed to overcome all the challenges with flair and brilliant control.
Clinton Moore of Australia, Thomas Pagés of France and Maikel Melero of Spain, crashed during the race, proving how difficult and challenging it was.
Sheehan agreed that the race was quite challenging but his secret to his success was his consistency.
“I expected a big challenge with Levi. Winning was a dream come true.”
Local rider Nick de Wit took the 11th position of the event standings.
