Another teenager commits suicide

A school in Eersterust mourns the death of ‘a quiet and humble’ teenager.

Another suicide has shocked Mamelodi residents when 17-year-old Mabotse Komane took her own life over the weekend. She was described as a quiet and humble person.

William Louw, principal of Eersterust Secondary School, said on Tuesday Komane’s death came as an intense shock. “We, as a school, send our condolences to the family during this difficult time.”

He said the school is hosting a memorial service in honour of Komane on on Wednesday (27 August) at 10:00.

Depression and suicide counsellor Cindy Fourie, who had suffered from depression and suicide thoughts for 15 years herself, says young people should never bottle up their emotions. “Find someone you trust, even if it is a stranger, and talk to them. Do not keep your feelings to yourself.”

Fourie confessed she had been freed from depression and suicide thoughts only through the grace of God and currently provides counselling under the guidance of senior pastors Karen and Morné Posthumus from Centurion Kerk Internasionaal (CKI). They offer free counselling sessions to anyone struggling with depression or suicide thoughts.

Their main focus is to support residents from Centurion but they are willing to council anyone in the Pretoria area.

The family of Komane could not be reached for immediate comment.
