Pretoria West police reacted quickly to a house robbery in progress in Danville on Wednesday morning. It was the house of a police officer that was targeted by four men, aged between 20 and 25. The perpetrators tied up the officer, his wife and their daughter at gunpoint, while ransacking the house.
“The three were tied up with ropes and shoe laces. The men demanded the officer’s firearm. They told him that they knew that he is a police officer,” Pretoria West police spokesperson, Constable Lerato Ngomane said.
She said the men then started loading electrical appliances and other goods from the house into the officer’s car, but they were apprehended as they were leaving the house. Neighbours noticed that something was wrong and contacted police. Sergeant Khotlo and constable Tanzwani reacted to the call immediately. They were tactically waiting for them outside the house and arrested them immediately.
Captain Louise Reed Steynberg from Central Cluster said that the victim is a Colonel stationed at the Presidential Protection Unit. He was about to leave his house when the men confronted him. “The victims were all unharmed. Three firearms with live ammunition as well as the Colonel’s firearm was recovered. The four men will soon appear at the Pretoria magistrate court.”
The Pretoria west police are applauded for a job well done and Steynberg said that the SAPS is proud of members like these that do their duties without hesitation.
