Police arrested two people in Irene the early hours of Thursday in connection with attempted cable theft and for stabbing a man. Two accomplices escaped.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Hero Gumbu said four men tried to steal cables near Irene Mall on Thursday morning around 4:00. A man at an eating outlet at Irene Mall saw the four as they were about to steal cables and alerted the police and mall security.
“On arrival, police and the security guards managed to catch two criminals while the other two disappeared into a veld nearby. We have also established that the complainant was stabbed with an unknown object on the thigh while he was trying to assist in catching the thieves.”
Gumbu could not say whether the man was injured seriously.
The culprits in their early twenties were believed to be foreign nationals. The two arrested men would appear in the Lyttelton Magistrate’s Court soon.
