Second robbery at Kolonnade shop

Second robbery at the Telkom Direct outlet at the Kolonnade shopping centre. No shots were fired and no injuries reported.

Four armed men robbed the Telkom Direct store at the Kolonnade shopping centre on Tuesday afternoon. This is the second robbery at the store in almost two weeks.

According to Captain Johannes Maheso, police spokesperson, the robbers managed to flee the scene with cell phones and other goods to the value of R200 000.

Two  robbers entered the shop and indicated to the employees that they were armed. The other two robbers kept watch outside of the shop.

“They ordered the staff to go to the back of the shop. No shots were fired and no one was injured during the robbery,” Maheso said.

Trauma councillors were dispatched to the scene to debrief the employees.

Police are investigating the possibility that the same robbers were responsible  for a robbery at  the shop about two weeks ago.

In the previous incident, two armed men had entered the store and subdued the employees before robbing the store of cell phones and iPads.

According to Monique Janse van Rensburg, spokesperson for the Kolonnade shopping centre, a Kolonnade security guard on patrol near the store heard the internal alarm go off. He called the control room for back-up, but the robbers had already fled.

Maheso said that no arrests had been made in either robbery.
