Two arrested for 48 SASSA card theft

Two men are expected to appear in court soon after Tshwane metro police found 48 SASSA cards in their possession on Monday morning.

Two men were arrested for fraud and theft after 48 SASSA cards were found in their possession on Monday morning just outside Morula Sun Casino, Mabopane, Tshwane metro police said.

Spokesperson Senior Superintendent Isaac Mahamba said the alleged fraudsters, a Mozambican and a South African, had already withdrawn R22 600 before the arrest. A woman of Zimbabwean nationality was also found with the accomplices.

“At around 04:00, we received information that there were people at the ATMs outside the casino who had been busy with transactions for a long time. When we arrived, we found they had 48 SASSA cards in their possession and a list of names with pin codes for those cards,” Mahamba said.

Mahamba said 35 receipts were also found in their possession. “We calculated that they had already withdrawn money to the value of R22 600. We arrested them for fraund and theft and they are held at the Mabopane police station. They are expected to appear in court soon,” he said.
