Woman robbed at gunpoint in new home

A woman was held at gunpoint in her new home when two men entered her house on Monday morning.

A woman was held at gunpoint in her new home in Elarduspark when men robbed her on Monday morning.

Anegelique Matthews (38) , was sleeping in the spare room of her house in Magnetiet Street when she thought she heard her husband enter.

“My husband started a new job today [Monday] and left for work at 06:00. I then heard the front door open and wondered why my husband came back so early,” said Matthews.

As she walked down the passage, Matthews was confronted by two armed men who pointed a gun at her.

“They made me get on my knees in the passage. One of them took the necklace off my neck and made me take off my rings while the other one of them took the plasma TV from the lounge and rummaged through the cupboards. ”

Matthews was then dragged to the main bedroom. “They told me to sit on the bed before covering my head with a duvet.”

The men took money and more jewellery from the bedroom before fleeing through the main door.

Matthews said the intruders broke the lock. However, the front door was unlocked by a key.

“It seems they used a key to get in the house. We only moved into this house last week and we recently discovered that many keys open the front door,” she said.

Police said the stolen items were valued at R4000. “Other stolen items included a Nokia cell phone, and two Tempo watches. Police are currently investigating,” said spokesperson Warrant Officer Hero Gumbu.
