Man arrested with dagga

Police plea with residents to come forward with any information on drugs at the Gomora informal settlement.

Hercules police met with residents of the Gomora squatter camp and surrounding areas in Hercules to help them to fight drugs.

Police say they are having problems with drug dealing at Gomora and need the residents to work with them.

“We find a lot of drugs in Gomora when we patrol. There are people living there dealing in drugs,” said Hercules police spokesperson, Captain Bonginkosi Msimango.

Police arrested a 40-year-old man in Gomora on Wednesday.

“The sector police was busy patrolling when they found a man with dagga wrapped in plastic.”

Msimango said drug and alcohol abuse in Gomora could be the result of the crime in the area.

“We need the community’s help to curb the abuse of drugs. This is a problem because not all community members come forward with information.”

He said they appreciate the help they sometimes get from the community. He promised that people who come forward with information will be protected and kept anonymous.

“We know that drugs are being delivered to Gomora. We have also noticed that there is a big market for drugs in informal settlements.”

Msimango said the police will work hard with the community to fight drugs in the area.
