Fingerless robber at large

A fingerless robber is at large after police found a finger at a business robbery.

A man had his finger cut off during a business robbery in the east of Pretoria on Saturday morning, police said.

Spokesperson Johannes Japhta said two men forced their way into a local shop around 01:30 by breaking down a wall.

They found two people inside. One of them was the owner who lived in the shop.

“The intruders demanded money and one of them was carrying a sharp object. He tried to assault the shop owner with the object,” said Japhta.

There was a scuffle and one of the robbers had his finger cut off by his accomplice.

The robbers fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, airtime vouchers and cigarettes.

“A suspect accidentally cut off his accomplice’s finger, which we found when we arrived on the scene,” Japhta said. “We are appealing to the public to provide any information should they come across someone who seems to have lost a finger.”
