Wanted criminal finally tracked down

After being on the run for four years, a wanted man was finally tracked down in Akasia.

A wanted man from Akasia who had been on the run since 2010, has finally been arrested by the Wonderboompoort police.

According to Warrant Officer Wanda Olivier, spokesperson for the Wonderboompoort police, the man was arrested in 2010 for the possession of suspected stolen property to the estimated value of R100 000.

During the initial court proceedings the man disappeared never to be heard of again, until a few months ago.

Warrant Officer Ronel Bronkhorst and Constable Leslie Sibanda, followed up leads and managed to get hold of the man on his cell phone. The man denied he was the person they were looking for. The police decided to visit his home to confirm the information that he had provided.

“The man living in the house said he was the wanted man’s brother. The police asked for the wanted man’s cellphone number and the brother’s identification document to prove his identity, but he could not provide it because the documents were allegedly at his work in Centurion,” Olivier explained.

Sibanda phoned the number the man had provided when the ‘brother’s’ phone suddenly started to vibrate. Meanwhile the ‘brother’s’ wife intervened in the conversation. The police warned both the husband and wife that they were going to be arrested for withholding information.

After further investigating the police gave the man a last chance to confess his true identity, which he did.

“Both of them later apologized to the police officers for the lies they told,” Olivier said.
