No action will be taken against the high school principal who was allegedly involved in selling fake school reports to residents.
The Gauteng Department of Education said lack of sufficient evidence propelled them to throw out the case. The case was reported to the department on 14 May by several complainants.
This comes after several people involved in the alleged school reports selling scheme at the Elizabeth Matsemela Secondary School in Block BB, decided to blow the whistle on the scandal. The victims said that the school principal, Oupa Mkhabela, has alledgedly been involved in the selling of the reports to illiterate people who worked at the school as volunteers.
Record revealed the story about the alleged report scam after several fake reports with false signatures surfaced.
According to some victims, they bought the school reports – in particular that for grade 11 – to apply for positions that require the candidate to have passed the grade.
It was alleged that Mkhabela traded the school reports to some people for about R2 000. Gauteng department’s spokesperson Phumla Sekhonyane said the information that was provided to them during the preliminary investigation could not be authenticated.
“We started with preliminary investigations by requesting information from the complainant who initially reported the matter. The information provided could not be authenticated and the department could therefore not proceed. We remain committed to good governance at our schools and call upon anyone with information to come forward as we will not hesitate to act,” she said.
She appealed to anyone with evidence to approach her department so they could reinstate the case. “We appeal to the members of the community who have evidence to approach us directly. We have a whistle-blower policy in the department that aims to safe guard the identity and protect the rights of the complainant.”
