The Eersterust community is in shock after a 17-year-old boy was stabbed to death in the early hours of Sunday morning, barely a day before the start of the last school quarter of the year.
The victim was a grade 11 pupil at Eersterust Secondary School in Eersterust.
He was allegedly stabbed while trying to break up a fight between one of his friends and a 27-year-old man.
According to Eersterust police spokesperson Constable Sam Shibambo, the boy was stabbed in the lower body.
“The victim was rushed to hospital and was later declared dead. A murder docket was opened and we arrested a 27-year-old man Monday morning after we received information about his whereabouts,” Shibambo said.
The suspect will appear in the Pretoria Magistrate court soon.
Dr. William Louw, the principal of the school, has offered his deepest condolences to the family members of the victim.
A memorial service will be held for the boy at Eersterust Secondary School on Thursday morning.
This tragedy follows after the school lost two other pupils in August of this year.
