Known Moot school mourns grade 11 pupil

Eersterust Secondary School recently held a memorial service for their fourth pupil this year.

A memorial service was held on Thursday at Eersterust Secondary School, following the death of Kivaan James over the weekend. James was stabbed in the early hours of Sunday and later died of his wounds at hospital.

Samantha Pillay, James’ mother, attended the memorial service. “I feel so special to know that so many people cared about him. We moved to Eersterust about eight years ago and I really did not expect to find so many people involved. It is such a good feeling that he was loved by so many people.”

According to Dr. William Louw, the principal at Eersterust Scondary School, it was a great loss for the school. “It is such a tragedy and the school is deeply touched by this loss. I would like to wish all our learners the best of luck for the exams that lie ahead and encourage them to do well in honour of Kivaan.”

The hall was packed as friends and family came to pay their respect. Louw said this is the fourth learner that the school has lost this year.

In July the school lost Levante du Plessis, a matric pupil, when he was killed during a shooting. In August they lost another matriculant, Mabotse Komane, and in September barely two weeks later, a grade 8 pupil, Sarrazin Fischer, died.
