Soccer star’s death mourned
Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates captain, Senzo Meyiwa, was shot and killed on Sunday night.
The country was on Monday mourning the death of Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates captain and goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa.
He was shot and killed in an armed robbery on Sunday night in Vosloorus on the East Rand.
The police have offered a R150 000 reward for any information that could lead to the arrest of his attackers, said the SA Police Services official twitter feed.
President Jacob Zuma expressed shock, sadness and outrage of Meyiwa’s death.
“We mourn the death of this young footballer and team leader whose life has been taken away at the prime of his career. The law enforcement authorities must leave no stone unturned in finding his killers and bring them to justice. Words cannot express the nation’s shock at this loss,” he said.
Zuma extended, on behalf of government and all the people of South Africa, condolences to his family and relatives, his friends in the football game, his club Orlando Pirates and the national soccer team.
“May his soul rest in peace,” he said.
Meyiwa is the second sporting hero the country has lost this month.
South African Olympics gold medalist Mbulaeni Mulaudzi (34) was killed in a road accident on Friday. He was on his way to Johannesburg for an Athletics South Africa meeting when the accident occurred.
